RNLI Floating Boathouse Launched

On Wednesday 16th February 2011, the RNLI launched their new floating boathouse. This will house the new Atlantic 85 due at the station in late spring.

The new boathouse has a hoist which is powered by a very sophisticated electronic hydraulic system and will accommodate the new Lifeboat bow or stern first. The entire cradle can lift and tilt to allow for drainage and easier access for maintenance.

The design of the new boathouse is the first of its kind in the country and construction of a similar boathouse for Brighton’s lifeboat will be underway shortly. The boathouses’ arrival is partly due to fundraising efforts of the local (and wider) communities.
